Tips for Your First Workout Class at Kyle House Fitness

 

At Kyle House Fitness we offer our exclusive group workout class, HIIPfit.

HIIPfit is an interval workout class designed to increase fat loss, tone muscle, and boost your metabolism while developing mobility and flexibility. But HIIPfit is more than a class, it’s a full mind and body experience fueled by the rhythm of music, signature lighting, and charismatic instructors.

Our workouts are designed for individuals of all fitness levels, from total newbie to athletes and it all starts the moment you walk in the HIIPfit classroom door.

The Class Room

The HIIPfit room, in my humble opinion, is a magical place to leave your worries and cares at the door and transform into a workout warrior.

In class, you get to run, lift and flow with some of the best people in Chattanooga who want to see you succeed just as much as you do. It is that sense of community that makes Kyle House Fitness’ workout classes stand out and thrive above the typical Bootcamp class.

Whether you’re a first-timer or have reached LEGEND status, here are some HIIPfit room pro tips to make your experience even more, dare I say, magical?

Hydrate - Water Is A Must Have

Hydration is key in and out of the gym. Good hydration means getting the right amount of water before, during, and after exercise. Water regulates your body temperature and lubricates your joints and it helps transport nutrients to give you energy and keep you healthy.

If you're not hydrated, your body can't perform at its highest level.

  • Don’t forget a water bottle. KHF has a UV filtered water system that delivers the highest level of filtration at ice-cold temps!

  • You can also grab a KHF water bottle or bottled water for purchase in the lobby.

  • If you drink a lot of water like me and need to refill, the best moment is when you’re headed back to the treads on your recovery break. You have about 2 minutes, plenty of time to ensure you don’t miss exercise instructions if you were headed to the floor.

Use Your Workout Space

Need more room for exercise? Good news… you have it!

  • The KHF HIIPfit classroom is over 1000 sqft and each bench has about 6 sqft for you to workout in. This means you have a ton of room to work out and perfect your moves during your 8-minute intervals.

  • Go ahead and turn to face the side mirror, especially for lateral movements like side lunges that take up a lot of space. This tip is a lifesaver for those part of the long-legged crew.

Stay For The Whole Experience

KHF is one of the only studios in the US that combines cardio, strength training, and yoga… and we take yoga pretty seriously. The HIIPfit class is designed to give you a complete, full-body experience, starting from the warmup and ending with the relaxing cooldown.

  • Coming early and staying until the last moment gives your body every element it needs. If you do have to leave early because of an emergency, don’t forget to do it before the cooldown so as not to interrupt your neighbor in relax mode.”

Find Your Challenge

This is more than a fun phrase, it’s a literal mentality we practice and preach in every class we teach.

What does it mean? Finding your challenge is about pushing yourself to be your best each and every time you enter the classroom. But that doesn’t mean matching the person to your left or your right, it means pushing to your personal challenge.

  • Don’t be afraid to increase your weight! Have you been doing 20 lbs for your bench presses for six months already? It’s the time! Grab those 25’s and try it. You will never know what you are capable of until you try.

  • You will hear us say “POINT 1 INCREASE” when you are on the treads. You can do more or stay where you are, but a challenge isn’t always a huge jump sometimes the biggest changes happen over time. If you take 4 fitness classes a week and increase each time on the treadmills by .1 after a year you will have made huge strides (literally) in your fitness progress.  

Ask For Help

KHF classes are taught by certified instructors who are coaches and teachers all wrapped into one.

  • If you have a question, ask your instructor. (make sure it’s not while they are counting in or out of a treadmill set)

  • If you need help with an exercise or need some other adjustment, your instructor is there to assist you. We want this to be the best workout for you and are glad to help.”

Resistance mode enables the user to choose between different levels of resistance facilitating HIIT exercises and performance techniques.

How To Get Through The Final One Minute

Tips for making it through the final minute without resting. Undoubtedly, the final minute is often very tough to get through. So often our minds tell us how easy it is to quit. Here are some ideas for making it through, non-stop.

  1. “Go to another place in your head. Whether it be a physical place (like a beach) or a place of strength (thinking about how strong you’ll become doing this), focus on that for the whole minute.”

  2. “Count! My personal favorite method is to set a numerical goal for myself. The final minute is squat jacks? Okay, I can probably get 40 in. I count in my head up to that number and tell myself I can rest once I’ve hit it. Before you know it, the minute is gone and I’ve squat jacked the whole time without rest!”

  3. “Make a list. Pick a topic like animals. Then try to name an animal that starts with each letter A-Z. You’ll get stuck at Q and then the minute will be over anyway.”

  4. “Recite a poem. Just kidding. Unless you really have a ton of poems memorized, then, by all means, RECITE!”

“The point here is, get out of your head. You’ve probably heard me say, “Your body is capable, don’t let your mind tell you otherwise.” I mean it. You are capable. You are strong.”
