Local gyms are ready.
Kyle House is spending the holiday cleaning his gym before the "New Year rush."
"Whether it's handles on the cable machine, a barbell or our suspension training system,” House said.
He and Kyle Miller co-own Kyle House Fitness in Chattanooga. They have been in business for a little more than two years. Their busiest time will be between now and March.
“We see about 108 people a day,” Miller said. “We'll see that bump up to about 200."
To keep those numbers high, they are focusing on keeping their facility as clean as possible.
"A place that isn't clean is going to make you feel uncomfortable,” Miller said.
Instead of doing one mass cleaning every day, they triple clean equipment using liquid disinfectant and Lysol.
“We clean after every single class in the classroom and training studio,” Miller said.
Some of the common viruses that spread among gym goers? “MRSA is a big one in gym settings and the cold and flu virus around this time,” House said.
A virus can stay on a surface for up to 72 hours. Dehumidifiers help eliminate that threat.
“With rubber flooring, with brick walls, with dry wall, with everything, mold and bacteria can get anywhere,” Miller said.
