WTVC: Chattanooga gyms keep people moving during coronavirus closures
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — Gyms across the country are closed due to the current coronavirus outbreak. But that doesn’t mean your fitness has to come to a halt.
Chattanooga gyms like Kyle House Fitness are changing their strategy to mimic their workouts at home.
“Our first two videos, we’ve had about 3,000 people watch them throughout the time period they were live,” said Kyle Miller, Co-owner of Kyle House Fitness.
“You could hold a bag, fill it and hold it against your chest,” said Megan Henson, a coach at Orange Theory Fitness in Chattanooga.
Henson says you can lift a bottle of laundry detergent, curl some canned goods or squat a suitcase if you don’t have dumbbells laying around the house.
Henson recommends creating a workout plan, setting a goal and keep up with people who will hold you accountable.
“Gardening, cleaning and laundry all adds up. So I’d say stay moving and stay as active as you can,” said Henson.
With gyms closed and kids home, your workout routine may look a little different. But both coaches suggest getting your family involved.
Although covid-19 may have closed gyms, it’s opened up new opportunities to maintain your fitness.
“That’s the silver lining of any crisis,” said Miller. “If the opportunity presents itself and you rise to the occasion, you can turn a negative into a positive.”
